Privacy Policy – Nowly Lock

Nowly Lock (“we”, “our”, or “us”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Nowly Lock mobile application and related services.

By using Nowly Lock, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. What Nowly Lock Is

Nowly Lock is an iOS awareness interruption app. It uses Apple’s Screen Time APIs (Family Controls and Managed Settings) to show shields on apps you select during hours you choose. When you continue from a shield, the app guides you through a brief, calm check-in so you can choose intentional unlock time or stay blocked.

Nowly Lock is not a medical service, therapy platform, healthcare provider, crisis support service, or parental control product.

2. Privacy-First Design

Nowly Lock is designed so that your reflection data stays on your device:

• No user accounts or login
• No cloud sync or backend servers operated by us for your check-in data
• No third-party analytics for your reflection content
• Local storage only (SwiftData, UserDefaults, and App Group storage shared with app extensions for shield and re-lock functionality)

3. Information Stored on Your Device

The app may store locally on your iPhone, including in App Group containers used by extensions:

Reflection & settings

• Mood selections and emotional labels from check-ins
• What you were looking for (e.g. escape, relaxation, connection)
• Unlock duration choices and timestamps
• Optional reflection notes
• Rule-based pattern insights derived from your local history
• App preferences (language, appearance, active hours, reflective-question mode, history PIN, etc.)

Screen Time & blocking

• Selections of apps or categories to block, configured through Apple’s system UI
• Shield and unlock scheduling state needed to apply and re-apply blocks

Apple manages Screen Time tokens and permissions. In some cases you may need to re-select blocked apps after reinstalling the app.

4. What We Do Not Collect

We do not operate a server that receives your check-in conversations or reflection journal for the core app experience. We do not:

• Require an email address or social sign-in for app use
• Upload your mood or reflection entries to our cloud
• Use your reflection data for advertising
• Send your check-in content to AI providers

5. Subscriptions & Apple

Nowly Lock may offer subscriptions (e.g. weekly or monthly plans with a free trial) processed by Apple through StoreKit. Payment, billing, and subscription management are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy and terms. We do not receive your full payment card details.

Apple may provide us with limited subscription status information necessary to unlock paid features.

6. App Extensions

Nowly Lock uses iOS app extensions (shield configuration, shield action, and device activity monitor) that share limited state via an App Group so shields can display correctly, open the app for check-in, and re-apply blocks when an intentional unlock expires. This data remains on your device.

7. Data Security

Your data benefits from iOS device security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, and encrypted storage where provided by the system). You may optionally protect reflection history with a PIN within the app.

No method of electronic storage is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your device secure.

8. Your Controls

You may:

• Change or remove blocked apps and active hours in Settings
• Delete the app to remove locally stored data (subject to iOS backup behavior if enabled)
• Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings
• Revoke Screen Time permission in iOS Settings

9. Children’s Privacy

Nowly Lock is not intended for children under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through our own servers, as the app does not require account registration.

10. Not Medical or Mental Health Advice

Nowly Lock does not provide:

• Medical advice
• Psychological diagnosis
• Therapy or mental health treatment

Check-ins and any pattern insights are for personal awareness and reflection only. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency, contact local emergency services or a qualified professional.

11. Third-Party Services

The app relies on Apple platform services, including Screen Time / Family Controls, Managed Settings, StoreKit, and system notifications. Those services are governed by Apple’s policies.

This website may be hosted by a third-party provider; that provider may process standard web server logs when you visit these pages.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of Nowly Lock after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy where permitted by law.
